Easy Jalapeno Hummus recipe. A spicy take on your typical chickpea dip, this is a great last minute appetizer idea.
I am not even sorry about being MIA. I just got back from Christina Lake, right after getting back from Italy. This vacation after a vacation was a nice, relaxing break from reality. At the lake reception is spotty, so all you are expected to do is swim and go hiking.
Perfection in its most natural form.
One of the best things about the lake is the amount of snacks and drinks you are expected to consume. How are you supposed to play boardgames out in the sun without them??
I don’t even want to think about how many bags of chips I went through at the lake. Calories don’t count when you are on vacation, right??
But how can you have chips without a good dip? This jalapeno hummus is the perfect snack to have at the lake. Or appetizer for whatever kind of vacation you are on. This is the best hummus I have ever tried. And when you can make your own hummus, there is no reason to buy store-bought hummus anymore!
Jalapeno Hummus Ingredients
You just need 7 simple ingredients to make this spicy jalapeño hummus recipe. All you need is:
- 1 cup of chickpeas (also called garbanzo beans)
- 1 large fresh jalapeno
- 3 Tbsp tahini (sesame seed paste)
- 3 garlic cloves
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/3 cup good olive oil
That’s it!
Tips
For the creamiest hummus: You want to use a fairly high-powered food processor. The texture of my homemade hummus is very silky smooth thanks to my Ninja food processor. So as long as you have a food quality food processor, your hummus will have a good texture.
What to serve with your spicy hummus: I love serving this hummus with pita chips, tortilla chips or fresh pita bread. You can also eat them with fresh veggies such as sliced red peppers or carrot sticks.
If you notice the hummus is too dry: Add a drizzle of olive oil to the top, then mix in. A little olive oil goes a long way, but make sure you are not using a robust flavored olive oil as it will overpower the hummus.
Variations
Use lime juice instead of lemon juice. I ran out of limes when I was making this the other day and was too lazy to go to the grocery store. It was just as good, and complemented the spice level perfectly.
Use canned chickpeas. I love cooked chickpeas because it’s convenient and so much cheaper, but canned chickpeas works just as well.
Want a spicier hummus? If you want to raise the heat level, try adding in some red pepper flakes, or additional jalapeno peppers.
Make Cilantro Jalapeño hummus! Add in some fresh cilantro, and blend it in with your food processor. My husband doesn’t like cilantro so I didn’t include it, but I am sure that it would taste fantastic!

What a delicious hummus recipe this is. I don’t think I’ve ever tried it with jalapenos and now tempting to give it a try.

I’m giving this a 5 star rating for a few reasons. Mainly, because the dip was freaking delicious. It had just the right amount of kick from the jalapenos. Next time I’m going to fire roast the jalapenos first. Everyone loved it!
