I am so excited about this month’s Secret Recipe Club recipe!
I was assigned the blog Things I Make (for Dinner), which has a URL of “Oreos and Cool Whip”. Which sounds like something I would have for dinner to be completely honest!
Sarah is the writer, photographer and recipe mastermind behind the blog. And we have quite a lot in common! We both live in Ontario, Canada, we both started our blog so that we can share recipes with friends and family, and we both have a lot of baking and dessert recipes on our sites! And while I could spend forever sifting through the recipes on her site, I decided to make an easy one, but what looked like a perfect one for me. Mainly because it was so quick to make.
I am always on the lookout for recipes that will get the most use out of the stand mixer that I bought two years ago. I am pretty sure I have got my moneys worth by now, but I do enjoy watching dough come together with the help of my dough hook. (Especially the dough to my Jalapeno Popper Skillet Pizza)
Making these buns might be scary at first. What if they turn out flat? 2 Tablespoons of yeast, is that really necessary? Why is this recipe so easy to make? But fear not my friends, there is no trick to these buns. They turn out perfect. Every time.
Me and my boyfriend finished all 12 in 2 days, which is saying a lot. We aren’t huge bread eaters, but when it comes to homemade bread… can you really blame us? How can we resist?
I must admit, the bread is kind of heavy, and it tastes way better warm, but that is what microwaves are for, am I right? My boyfriend described them as tasting almost like a pretzel and a bun combined into one. I am not really sure what he meant by that, but I adore pretzels, and buns are alright, so I will take that as a compliment.
We had these along with soup one day, and chili the next, but I am sure it would also taste good with some butter and jam speared inside it. Will be trying that the next time I make these. Which will probably be within the next week.
45 minutes dinner rolls
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp dry active yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch pan and set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, pour in the water, oil, sugar and yeast. Let stand for around 15 minutes, or until frothy.
- Add in the flour and salt. Mix in with a dough hook until the dough comes together.
- Divide the dough into 12 pieces, and place in the prepared pan.
- Preheat the oven to 400˚F. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rest for 10 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden.

I love baking bread because I find it so therapeutic… but mostly because I love devouring fresh, warm bread straight from the oven! Love these dinner rolls, dear! I could totally make a meal out of just these! Simply pass me some honey butter and get outta my way! 😉 Cheers, friend!

Wow, I thought my No-Knead Rolls were fast, but these, well, I can see a batch being made soon here. Cause I usually decide that a hot, fresh roll sounds perfect just about an hour before we eat. And decide against it. But now, I have no excuse. My hips may never forgive me.
