Easy Chocolate Chess Pie recipe. This southern chocolate pie has a rich chocolate flavor and makes such an easy dessert recipe.
It is pi(e) day next week!
As both a math teacher and a food blogger, this day is super important to me. Although, every single year I forget about it until it’s too late. I got my act together this year, and I thought that I would celebrate with the best chocolate pie recipe ever.
So I was cleaning out my freezer the other day and found a whole stack of frozen pie crust AND some store-bought pie dough. So this I made this Chocolate Chess Pie. This southern classic is such an easy pie recipe, I am going to be making it over and over this year! With a flaky pie crust topped with chocolate filling that, when baked, gives this delicious crackly top. My mouth is watering just thinking of this pie. It is also such a great pie to make for the holiday season. The best part about it is that it is such an easy recipe, you can keep it in your back pocket as a last minute dessert recipe. It is definitely a keeper!
Chocolate Chess Pie Ingredients
This classic pie recipe is only made with 6 basic ingredients. All you need is:
- salted butter (or unsalted butter and a pinch of salt)
- chocolate chips
- white sugar
- large eggs
- vanilla extract
- unbaked pie crust
Tips
Storage: Allow the pie to cool at room temperature, then store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
For the unbaked crust: you can use either store-bought pie crust or homemade pie crust. Personally, I like using the store-bought crust just because I am usually short on time, but if you have a favorite homemade crust recipe use that one!
Toppings: Top this pie with your favorite toppings. I love adding fresh whipped cream, fresh berries, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Melting the butter and chocolate. I like to do do it in the microwave to cut back on time, but the best way to do it so as to not accidentally burn the chocolate is to heat it on low in a small saucepan. This way, you can keep an eye on it to make sure that the melted chocolate doesn’t get overcooked and hard to mix.
