This healthy whole wheat Banana and Kiwi Bread recipe is perfect for a quick and easy breakfast idea. Tastes like a lightly sweetened cake in loaf form.
My banana bread combos know no bounds! I have added apple, hemp hearts, chocolate chips and now I have added kiwi in this weird sounding but actually really good Banana and Kiwi Bread. I would link some more of my other old recipes, but they have been written so long ago that the photos are actually painful to look at. The pictures are due for an update, and I hope to update them as soon as I stop making cakes, I promise.
But now, I’m taking a break from cake making to make this Banana and Kiwi Bread. I needed something that is NOT covered in layers of sugar to balance having to taste test all of my cake recipes that I am making for my wedding.
If you were curious what I am leaning towards now, I did a poll on my Instagram Story showing all of the cakes I have made so far. I posted the winner here, but that might change as we approach the date. John really wants me to make it with ganache drip, but I haven’t really figured out how to do that yet.
Okay, sorry. Tangent done. Back to your regular programming. I was talking about this Banana and Kiwi Bread, wasn’t I?
I could talk about this Banana and Kiwi Bread forever. But I promise, I will make it short.
The reason I made this bread this week was because I had a whole bunch of kiwis lying around that have started to go squishy and wrinkly. I’m not going to eat wrinkly fruit raw. I don’t trust it for some reason.
But then again, I hate wasting food. I try to do it as little as I can. So since no one was going to eat it in its wrinkly form, I knew I needed to bake with it. And since I also had bananas that were starting to go brown, I decided on a banana bread.
I am always making these “use up your fruit quick” recipes in the summer. I always forget that fruit gets riper faster in the summer with the heat of the house, so I continue to overload my cart with all of the fruit.
This Banana and Kiwi Bread recipe really hit the spot! It isn’t as sweet as your typical banana bread, which was perfect for me because I am so sick of all sweet foods. Cake baking can do that to you.
And it is so easy to make! The hardest part is waiting for it to cook in the oven. It makes the house smell amazing, and it makes the best nut free snacks that you can bring everywhere.
You can bet that this will be a staple in my kitchen when I return to school in September!

Wow, can you really taste the kiwi? What is it like?
atasteofmadness
It is very subtle. But it has that interesting feel when you are eating it, because you have the kiwi seeds in there :p
Alicia Hewitt
I don’t typically like kiwis because of the texture, but I think I’ll have to try this. What a great recipe!!
atasteofmadness
Thanks Alicia! If anyone ever gives you kiwis I guess you can always try making this bread 😉

I have made a million banana bread’s but haven’t tried it with kiwi….. I am missing out this looks so good. Love it 😀
atasteofmadness
Right?? I thought I have tried all possible banana bread recipes too :p
Jules@WolfItDown
This looks so good, and with added kiwi?! It didn’t even turn the slightest of green either! *gasp*
atasteofmadness
I know, right? I kinda wish it went a LITTLE green, but it was still really good 🙂
Elaine Buonsante
I never imaged using kiwis in this way…you are very adventuresome. I’ll give it a try when I see some kiwis on sale.
atasteofmadness
It is such a great way to use up ripe kiwis 🙂
Elaine Benoit
Seriously, I would have never thought to put kiwi in an easy bread! That is brilliant. I’m imagining what it tastes like and now I have to make it to see if I’m right! Your bread looks delicious!
atasteofmadness
Yeah, I never thought of it either until I had a ripe kiwi that needed using 😉

What a delicious combination! I’ve never heard of such a thing before and it sounds delicious! I can only imagine the sweetness and moisture that the kiwis would bring – pinning for later!
atasteofmadness
Thanks for the pin Kylie!!
Leslie Kiszka
I’ve never used kiwis in a savory recipe before – this sounds so good! I like the cracks on top of the bread, it’s my favorite part of banana breads.
atasteofmadness
I know what you mean! I hope you give it a go 🙂
Natalie
Oh wow, this banana bread looks so delicious. I love the addition of kiwi. I bet they added extra flavor and moisture to the loaf. I have all the ingredients at home. I’m making this for my family right now.
atasteofmadness
Nice! Let me know how it goes 🙂
Monica
I kind of love the banana kiwi combination! I love eating the fruits together, so it’s only logical that they work beautifully together in this bread, even though I would absolutely never have thought of it on my own!
atasteofmadness
Yes! I love making new combos for banana bread 🙂
Anne Lawton
I love the idea of kiwi in banana bread! I bet they make a perfect combination

You have my heart with the addition of kiwi to this. I love kiwi and not many people are brave enough to bake with it. I can’t wait to make this.
atasteofmadness
I love kiwi too! It is my first time baking with it, but I love it!
Saras
HI,
THank you so much for the great recipe with lovely photos! Is the cup measurement is 240 ml? Also could you please give me the wheat flour 2 cups in grams? Also, my kiwis are not ripen, I can’t resist myself to try this recipe, so shall i use the unripen kiwis? Waiting for your reply….
atasteofmadness
You can try it with unripen kiwis, but it may not be as strong of a flavour.
My cup measurement is 250 ml. 2 cups of the whole wheat flour in grams would be around 312 grams.
Let me know if you give it a go!!
Saras
Sure. Thank you.
Saras
My kiwis got ripen after long wait(since it’s winter here). Tried this recipe with 2/3 cups of raw sugar for sweetness. I baked the batter in 2 small loaf pans, topped with walnuts. The bread came out well and was delicious. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
Next time, I wish to try this recipe without banana since it will help if the bananas are not in season. So thinking of adding one more egg and skip the baking powder. is there anything else I need to change while skipping the banana?
atasteofmadness
Yay! I am glad you enjoyed it!!
I would add something to replace the moistness the banana adds. Maybe applesauce if you have that on hand!
Saras
Thank you, will try it later
Joan
Wonder if regular flour could be used at the same measurement?
atasteofmadness
Yes that would work!
Saras
Hi, can I substitute honey and sugar with 2/3 cups of coconut sugar? Will it make the bread dry? Waiting for your reply, since baking for a birthday girl with dietry requirements.
atasteofmadness
Shoot, sorry for the late reply. It may make the cake a little bit more dry. If you don’t mind that, it would be fine. I would suggest maybe even adding some applesauce if you have some on hand.
Sam
What can I sib the honey for? I want to give it to my 7month old but under 1s arent allowed honey
atasteofmadness
You could use maple syrup!

So if I use “all purpose” flour do I still need the baking soda and baking powder.
I have five Kiwis from Hungry Harvest and ONE ripe banana on hand so this is perfect!!
atasteofmadness
Ooh good!
If you have all-purpose you do need the baking soda and baking powder.
Kim Spencer
Could this be used with gluten free flour and normal oil instead of coconut? Thanks
atasteofmadness
Yes it can! 🙂
sadie
I’m intrigued! This could be the ticket. I am regularly inundated with kiwis. They are just meh, to me. I would love to give this a try. Any thoughts on veganizing it? Would flax eggs be sufficient? TIA. Cheers, sadie
atasteofmadness
I have never tried it, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work!
Maria
I tried your recipe for the same reason–I had 4 kiwis that were going to go bad soon. I started looking for recipes for breads or muffins and came across the Banana and Kiwi Bread. I gave it a try since I had all the ingredients. I followed the recipe with just one change. I omitted the honey and added turbinado sugar. The bread came out amazing. It is delicious.
Thank you for sharing
atasteofmadness
Yay!! I am so happy you were able to save those kiwis from the garbage! So glad you liked this bread 🙂
