Picture this: your Christmas guests are coming and you notice within minutes of them showing up that you have a bunch of beautifully ripe bananas. The only problem is, they are only beautiful if you are a baker. Seeing browning bananas on the clean counter is hardly a coveted table decoration.
There is no time to make a banana bread, but you want to impress them with your baking prowess. What do you do?
If it were up to me, this mug cake would be my go-to save for this situation.
Alternatively, this (along with my favorite microwave oatmeal recipe) is my go-to recipe when I only have one ripe banana in my house. I mean, you don’t want to eat this browning banana, but then again, you can’t really make a banana bread with it unless you want to buy another bunch of bananas and wait until they go brown too. *Sigh* Foodie troubles.
So whatever your situation is, if you have one, two… ten ripe bananas, you should seriously consider this mug cake. You won’t regret it.

Banana Nutella Mug Cake
Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp powdered sugar
- pinch of salt
- 2 Tbsp Nutella
- 2 Tbsp canola oil
- 4 Tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup ripe banana (around 3/4 a banana)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, cocoa, powdered sugar and salt.
- Make a well in the middle of the mixture and add the wet ingredients. Mix together the ingredients until fully combined.
- Pour the mixture into a microwave safe mug. Place in the microwave and cook on high for 1 1/2 minutes and see if it’s done. If it’s not done, microwave for 30 more seconds. Let stand for one minute until eating.

OMG! Delicious… banana and nutella… I am hungry already. Pinned it:)
I would seriously punch someone in the face for this. No, not really. It looks easy enough that I could make my own, and avoid any violence!
Hey, this recipe is delicious and so simple! I watched it through the microwave window praying that it wouldn’t overflow, and I thank God that it didn’t! 😀 The mashed banana kinda looked like melted caramel!
I’m so glad you liked it!
Looks delicious Cathleen, I can see myself making these one at a time all day long.
So….breakfast? I think YES.
