Easy Bison Burger recipe. This quick dinner idea is the perfect way to use up your ground bison meat. Made with Worcestershire sauce.
So these days, I am really just using all of the ingredients that I have on hand to make meals.
It is now one month into the quarantine and they are still sold out of toilet paper and meat at my grocery store.
Luckily, I have been using Imperfect Produce since September, and they still have a good supply of meat, bread and veggies. Definitely been a lifesaver these days!!
So last week from Imperfect Foods, I got 2 blocks of ground beef, and since they also had some bison meat, I decided to give it a go.
I have never cooked with bison. Like, at all. So I was very nervous about trying it out.
I really shouldn’t have been nervous, because these Bison Burgers turned out way better than I expected!
And this recipe really is super simple. All you need is:
- oil
- an onion
- bell peppers
- ground bison
- Worcestershire sauce
- salt & pepper
- hamburger buns
- ketchup
That is it!
I know these days it is hard to find certain items. In Chicago, it is nearly impossible to find onions, which makes me even more glad I have an Imperfect Foods subscription! But you can definitely leave out the onions and top it with something else if you don’t have any on hand.
Another item you may have a hard time finding is hamburger buns (or any bread really!). In this recipe, I actually used my Hamburger Buns recipe because I can’t for the life of me find any bread in the grocery stores these days. So if you are lucky enough to have yeast around your house, I would suggest you try out that recipe too!
Bison Burger
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, halved, peeled and thinly sliced
- 4 small bell peppers, chopped
- 12 oz ground bison
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 Tbsp jalapeno ketchup
Instructions
- Heat the oil on medium heat. Cook the onion and the bell peppers until the onion is transparent and fragrant, around 3-5 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together the ground bison, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper until fully combined. Form into 4 patties.
- In the same skillet you used for the onions, cook the bison patties until no longer pink, around 5 minutes per side.
- Spread 1 Tbsp of spicy ketchup on top of each bun. Top with one patty and some cooked onion mix.

We have a local bison farm here that we get our bison meat from. I love that it is so good and so lean. I don’t feel guilty having a burger made out of it. Love the idea of putting Worcestershire sauce in it!

Such a lovely looking burger! I start subscribing to Imperfect Food too recently, it’s such a life saver indeed being able to still get fresh produce and meat in these days.

Now that is an epic looking burger. I have had bison before, and really enjoyed it, but I haven’t cooked with it.
