Easy Chili White Hot Chocolate Recipe. This creamy drink idea is the perfect recipe if you want a sweet rush with a touch of warmth.
How have I never heard of National Cocoa day??? Apparently it is on December 13th. I’m so ready for it.
Cocoa is one of my favorite drinks and a definite must for the holidays. You know the feeling: when you sit down and drink a steaming hot cup of cocoa or another one of your favorite holiday drinks and you can feel the warmth spreading all across your body. To me, that right there feels like Christmas.
Now although this Chili White Hot Chocolate is not quite hot cocoa, it definitely hits the spot. I have been buying and drinking so much white hot chocolate recently, that I thought “why don’t I make it myself?”
Reaching for my bottle of cinnamon, I accidentally reach for my almost empty bottle of chili powder. Whatever, let’s dump this into the saucepan too. And I’m glad I did. This makes for the best spicy hot chocolate with the perfect kick.
Chili White Hot Chocolate Ingredients
You just need 4 simple ingredients to make this white hot chocolate recipe. All you need is:
- white chocolate chips
- ground cinnamon
- chili pepper powder
- whole milk
- whipped cream (optional)
That’s it!
Tips
Keep an eye on your stove while your chocolate melts. Make sure you don’t go above medium heat or medium-low heat. This could result in you burning the chocolate, which will ruin your entire drink.
Instead of the double boiler method: You can place all of the ingredients (except for the whipped cream) in a small saucepan (Use a medium saucepan if you are doubling or tripling the recipe). Just be aware that you will need to keep an extra close eye on the hot chocolate, and mix it continuously.
Variations
Make this recipe vegan. Replace the 1 3/4 cups milk with a plant-based milk of your choice and use dairy free chocolate chips. I personally like cashew milk because it tastes just as creamy as whole milk, but oat milk and coconut milk are good options too.
Switch up the chocolate. Instead of white chocolate, you can try either milk chocolate, dark chocolate or bittersweet chocolate depending on your tastes that day, Sometimes I want a deeper chocolate flavor, so I will use unsweetened chocolate in this drink. It also looks beautiful if you top these drinks with chocolate shavings.
Change it up for the holidays. Add some crushed candy canes for Christmas, or a touch of vanilla and heart sprinkles for Valentine’s Day.
Don’t have chili pepper? Cayenne pepper, paprika and crushed up red pepper flakes work well in its place. Just be careful, because some of these spices produce significant heat.
Add some alcohol. Want a more adult hot chocolate? Try adding some Irish cream or some coffee liqueur for a more rich flavor.
