Easy Chocolate Cupcakes with Cookies and Cream Frosting recipe. Super moist cupcakes topped with Oreo Frosting is the perfect dessert for any occasion.
It has been a while since I made cupcakes around here!
What I mean is, it has been a while since I posted a recipe about cupcakes. I make them almost every other week to celebrate birthdays at my school, but I usually stick to my favourites: funfetti cupcakes or honey cupcakes.
But with my Oreo and chocolate obsession, it was only a matter of time before I made this Chocolate Cupcakes with Cookies and Cream Frosting.
I can’t tell you how much better having cupcakes with Cookies and Cream Frosting is. It is a game changing frosting! I actually ran out of frosting for all of my cupcakes because I was licking too much of it off of the stand mixer paddles.
And also snacking on it by the spoonful. As you do.
But this Cookies and Cream Frosting paired with a light and fluffy chocolate cupcake base? Pure heaven in a bite.
Since John just left to go back to Vancouver, I am here in Toronto alone. Again.
I need to keep myself occupied SOMEHOW.
These cupcakes are a good enough distraction as any. When your distraction looks this good, who cares if it ruins all New Year’s resolutions of eating healthy, right?
I like doubling the frosting recipe so that I don’t need to worry about eating it all.
Also, the frosting freezes beautifully. Just put it in an airtight container and keep it in the freezer for when you need to use it next. I always have frosting on hand. Just in case!

Chocolate Cupcakes with Cookies and Cream Frosting
Ingredients
Cupcakes
- 1 1/8 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
Frosting
- 1 cup salted butter, softened
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3-6 Tbsp milk of choice
- 6 Oreos, crushed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350˚F. Line a muffin pan with paper liners and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
- Cream together the sugar and the egg. Add in the vanilla, milk and butter until fully combined. Slowly add in the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until fully incorporated.
- Divide the batter evenly into the prepared muffin pan, and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- To make the frosting: mix together all of the frosting ingredients in a large bowl. Add in more or less milk, depending on your desired consistency.
- Once the cupcakes are cool, place the frosting in a ziplock bag with a corner clipped, or a piping bag. Swirl the frosting on each individual cupcake.

If chocolate cupcakes are not enough, add some cookies, and if that is not enough – add some cream frosting. I love that. And I am soooo ready to make these over the next weekend. I need a big batch of no-fail cupcakes, and these look amazing!
