Easy Cream Cheese Danishes. This semi-homemade breakfast recipe is the perfect last minute sweet treat to start your day.
Whenever there is an option for breakfast, 9 out of 10 times I am choosing to get breakfast pastries. Actually, it doesn’t even need to be breakfast. At any time of day, I will be tempted by breakfast pastries, but it cinnamon rolls or danish pastries. It’s hard for me to walk into a grocery store without walking out with a box of danishes.
I actually used to work at a coffee shop that sold cream cheese danishes, and they never lasted longer than 15 minutes on the shelves. So in an effort to recreate those delicious pastries, I have made these Easy Cream Cheese Danishes. It is now my favorite recipe for when I want an easy dessert and have minimal ingredients.
Easy Cream Cheese Danishes Ingredients
You are just 7 simple ingredients away from making this Cream Cheese Danish recipe. All you need is:
- 4 oz full-fat cream cheese
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 Tablespoons sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 can of crescent rolls
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons milk
That’s it!
Tips
Storage: Once the danishes have cooled to room temperature, store any leftover danishes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Use electric mixers to mix the cheesecake filling. A hand mixer or.a stand mixer works great. I have tried mixing the cream cheese mixture by hand, and let me tell you. I was there for 30 minutes, and I couldn’t move my arm at all the next day.
Variations
Add some mix-ins to the top of the cream cheese mixture. I personally love fresh strawberries or fresh raspberries, but anything that you have on hand would work on top of the pastries. A chocolate chip topping or jam on top would also taste great.
Use store-bought Puff Pastry sheets for the Danish dough. Instead of the crescent rolls, you can cut a sheet of puff pastry into 9 pieces. Spread some egg wash on top using a pastry brush, then fill each square with the cream cheese filling. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp sour cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tube crescent rolls (do not roll out)
Glaze
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar

- In a medium bowl, cream together the cream cheese, sugar, sour cream and vanilla until smooth.
- Cut the roll of crescent roll dough into 8 even slices. Place them cut side down on the prepared baking sheet. Stretch and flatten the rolls in the centre so that it is easy to fill with filling.
- Divide the cream cheese mixture into the flattened rolls and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Allow to cool on baking sheet for at least 10 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled danishes.
