Easy German Chocolate Cake Oatmeal recipe. A healthier version of your favourite dessert that you can eat for breakfast.
Continuing my obsession with all things oatmeal.
But when I find a breakfast that is quick, nutritious and easy to make.. well, you can bet that I will be making it every morning until I find something better.
Or until I want to treat myself to pancakes. I just got a pancake dispenser that I am super curious about. But I digress..
I have been going through lists of popular desserts so that I can make an oatmeal version. I swear, I will be making oatmeal from now until the end of time going through this list!
I have already made birthday cake oatmeal, coconut cream pie oatmeal and red velvet oatmeal to name a few. It’s time for something equally as decadent: German Chocolate Cake Oatmeal!
The crazy thing is, I have never actually tried a German Chocolate Cake.
I have seen them plenty of times as a teenager when I used to work at a grocery store. I would ring them through, wondering why so many people were buying them. Turns out, our grocery store was one of the only stores that sold German Chocolate Cake.
Even back then I was a prospective baker. I was always getting baking ideas from looking at the desserts we were selling, and figuring out what was popular. Since the German Chocolate Cake was a best seller, I made a mental note of the ingredients that goes into a German Chocolate Cake. I vowed I would one day recreate one at home.
Who knew that the first time I do, it would be in oatmeal form?
Who am I kidding? You probably all knew it, from my regular oatmeal posts on Instagram.
But don’t be fooled by the look of this German Chocolate Cake Oatmeal. It is actually pretty healthy. There is only 2 teaspoons of honey in this oatmeal, plus all of the fibre you are getting from the oats? I think this should be on everyone’s breakfast rotation!
