Here comes the rain..
But that’s only to be expected here in Vancouver. As soon as September hits, it’s all doom and gloom rain. Or it’s rain in the morning and a beautiful sunny day in the evening. It’s funny because you can tell at what time any given person has left their house just by what they’re wearing.
Since I lose on average one umbrella per week, I needed to go umbrella shopping today.
Umbrella shopping is always the most depressing kind of shopping. It just reminds you that summer is nearing it’s end..or just that we’re in one of the 10 months where it rains constantly. But in this case, it’s the first one, and frankly, I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet!
And so, this recipe was born.
I would have never heard about Ovaltine had it not been from my mom. She is not one to enjoy sweet things, so she doesn’t usually try any of my baking, but she really likes Ovaltine. I remember a while back, I made Eggless Ovaltine Cake, and my mom actually liked it. So again, in an attempt to make her taste something I make and actually like it, I made this ice cream.
And it worked! She tried this ice cream, and ate the whole cup I gave her. Success! I’m so excited because this is rare. On the occasion that she does try my desserts, she usually passes it back to me telling me she doesn’t really like sweet things. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that this ice cream is bitter. It just has the perfect sweetness balance.
So to celebrate the end of summer and picky eaters everywhere, I present to you this Ovaltine ice cream recipe.

Love this recipe! So creative. I'll confess that I have never bought Ovaltine, but how sweet to try and come up with a sweet treat your mother would like. Hoping you don't have too much rainy weather this fall!

Ah…ovaltine makes me think of childhood. Great idea for an ice cream. My son just required I make fudge ripple. I should talk him into this instead!

It's getting hot here, so I would love some ice cream now 😉

Haha, my parents are the same. They do try my desserts, but they don`t often take more than 1 bite since it`s too sweet for their palate. This ice cream…gosh, it looks enticing! It`s still really hot here!

Sounds wonderful! How about some crushed maltesers to sprinkle over it? 🙂

i've never made anything with ovaltine, but it sounds adventurous! i'm very familiar with the struggle to get mom to love the desserts i make. she claims to not have a sweet tooth, but i think she's just worried about her waistline. 🙂

Sorry, this must be a Canadian thing!! You can buy it in stores there. Basically it’s half cream and half milk.
