Are you a snacker when watching movies?
I am not a huge snacker when I watch movies, but my boyfriend is always wanting something to eat when watching anything. Usually he wants potato chips, but we never have any in the house! So he resorts to eating whatever he can find in the house. Some of the weird snacks include bowls of frozen peas, craisins, and hunks of cheese.
Obviously we need a snack intervention.
There is always popcorn kernels in the house, so the option of a normal movie snack is always available. But he never wants to make it, and I never want to clean another pot when I just finished cleaning the kitchen. (If only we owned a dishwasher…)
But you can convince me to do anything as long as there is a spicy incentive. And by a spicy incentive, I mean eating spicy food!
Growing up, everyone in my family liked spicy food. There was always an abundance of hot sauces in the cupboards, including many different varieties of Tabasco sauce. That is because my brother would put it on everything. Scrambled eggs? Tabasco. Toast? Tabasco. Steak? Yup! Tabasco. But his greatest idea was putting it on popcorn.
I have been eating Tabasco popcorn for years, but have never put it on my blog because it seems like a non-recipe. It has only 4 ingredients, and any dummy who can make popcorn can come up with it. But since it took me and my brother years to figure this combo out, and it is seriously one of my favorites, I think it merits a post.
Happy snacking!
Tabasco Popcorn
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp oil
- 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted
- Tabasco
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Place one kernel of popcorn in the oil, and wait until it pops.
- Once the kernel pops, place the rest of the popcorn kernels in the pot, cover and shake the pot for 1 minute.
- Place the pot back on the stove, and continue to shake while the popcorn pops to prevent it from burning. Once the popping slows to about 1 pop every 2 to 3 seconds, remove from heat and continue to shake.
- In a small bowl, mix together the butter and Tabasco. I usually use 8 drops, but you can add more or less, depending on your taste. Drizzle over the popcorn, and mix until fully coated.
