Easy Tuna Casserole recipe. Made with pantry ingredients, this easy dinner recipe is always a quick and simple family favorite.
First time making a casserole. I know, I know, that is the most basic of the basics, but I have never really eaten at home until recently. I was always eating out, so making main dishes is quite the adventure for me. But, not to toot my own horn, this healthy tuna casserole was quite the success. In fact, I think that this is the best tuna casserole recipe around! Again, definitely not biased.
Since I always have tuna lying around, I have been leaning into making a lot more tuna recipes lately. But out of all the great recipes I have made lately, I always come back to this easy recipe. It is just too good.
Tuna Casserole Ingredients
This healthy tuna noodle casserole recipe is made with only 7 simple ingredients which are typical pantry items. All you need is:
- pasta of choice – I like fusilli, but tender egg noodles is always a classic.
- yellow onions
- sharp cheddar cheese – freshly grated parmesan cheese is also good.
- frozen peas – fresh green peas also work.
- canned tuna
- cream of mushroom soup – can replace it with any cream soup, such as cream of chicken soup or cream of celery soup.
- whole milk – non-dairy milk works here too.
Tips
Storage: Store leftover tuna casserole in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. I have this casserole dish that has a lid that you can put on top of the casserole to keep it fresh in the fridge.
Top with something crunchy. Typically, I like to upgrade this classic tuna noodle casserole by adding some crushed potato chips or ritz crackers on top. It is such a great way to elevate this easy meal.
What tuna to use for the tuna mixture? If you wanted a stronger tuna taste, you should opt for skipjack tuna, Otherwise, solid white albacore tuna or any other tuna you have on hand would work!
Add some more seasoning. This is a good base recipe, but if you wanted to add more flavor don’t be afraid to experiment with some spices! I love adding in onion powder, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and of course some salt and black pepper.

Are you telling me that you don't tip the bag back and drop all the leftover potato chip crumbs into your mouth? You're so missing out! :)~ In all seriousness, this looks like a perfect weeknight meal and I can tell by looking at the recipe that my kids would easily gobble this up!
